Just got home from the theater event. Well thanks for cutting it in half this year for my hour and half long drive....
Seriously, that closing was so poorly handled, especially when we've gotten used to Sony showing multiple sizzle reels each show... and I don't think he even
mentioned that it was over.... We sat there for a good couple minutes with black screen, a couple guys saying "That was it?...." until finally the "go to redeem your E3 event voucher" video came up.
I mean I can't really say that cutting out the huge amount of fluff and numbers and stats that are usually in it is a bad thing, but for that length of a drive I don't know.....
and it was odd because they used a bigger theater this time and it seemed like they were going for something big, especially with the orchestra. And... I could see what they were going for with the orchestra... but it just ended up seeming a bit overdramatic.
And in the end, we were just all
when it was over. Didn't even know it was...
As for the sssstuff. God of War definitely got the biggest cheer, right when kratos was shown. and of course Kojima, but that was obvious - (and it wouldn't have been right to expect more to be included in the game reveal because it's been such a short time, so I didn't... Though I'm not into his games anyways).
The Last Guardian got a pretty decent cheer, at least when the guardian finally lept out. Did it look like they upgraded some of the rock walls or background ruins a little bit in the beginning? I can't say for sure.
Crash... Ahh Crash.... Even with that reveal being handled so poorly, it was sad the lackluster cheer for Crash...
And I was pretty much the only one who had to make a comment about it still being with Activision. (And... I bet most people had no idea that he was part of Activision.) And my god if the remastered Crash in the games looks like he does in Skylanders, sigh.... You know... Before Crash Twinsanity, Crash didn't have crazy eyes.... He was dimwitted, but he was not bonkers.....
I'm kind of thinkin this is about where Crash dies again.... Maybe 1 official game, but it's not gonna sell well.... (Unless maybe they frickin' present it better that time wow.....) I mean my god that reveal was bad..... after starting with big potential with the effects they put on.
I was surprised by the huge split between the reveal and gameplay of Days Gone, especially when he didn't even say that there was more coming later. In the gameplay, for bit I was, of course, going "ok, let's just see if this has more potential than Last of Us" (which I didn't end up caring much for in the end) even though this is yet another post-apocalyptic game in the forest... and oh look gremlin zombies. And more zombies. And more zombies. AND MORE ZOMBIES.
AND MORE ZOMBIES! I was hoping for more interesting things to pop up, but that whole event from the zombies was so... bonkers long that it ended up being more of a motion of watching him vaguely shoot at a pile of zombies that would tumble down in front of him about instantly. (And that one moment where he bumped through a couple of them on the roof and they like completely ignored him...) Was really hoping to see some good stuff, but just didn't end up really happening..
The Horizons made me a little more excited and looked rather fun and kind of dynamic/badass, ... even if it ends up being yet another open-world checklist game. The surprisingly poorly animated facial expressions was rather disappointing to me though.
I think the Detroit trailer would have been significantly better if it was intimate rather than dramatic I think. Don't think that was done too well, and was a tad flashy and confusing when it shouldn't have been.
Of course I don't really have an interest in Spiderman really, but a guy near me was
certainly into it. (His response reminded me of Jaffe, who's a big Spiderman fan.
) But it being by Insomniac, it's going to be
at least mostly good. Kinda interesting to see it by them and not Sucker Punch though. Hell, before I even realized it was Spiderman, I thought it was InFamous. As for me, with a spiderman... I come for the city swinging, and hope that it's good, and that's about it... and that alone can only hold your interest for so long. (I still remember playing Spiderman 2, I think it was, on the original frickin' Xbox at my friend's house. And of course swinging from the sky in Spiderman 1 (I think)
and so much jumping in the water.
) As for what Sucker Punch is doing, I have no idea how the latest InFamous ended, but I think it's rather unlikely that they aren't working on yet another Infamous, because the response seemed pretty good from what I know. I've just.... never gotten to InFamous 2 because somehow 1 managed to turn me off too much by the end.... Sigh, I'm sorry, but I couldn't handle how Sucker Punch handled human characters in the first game - Like they were cartoons. And the whole time, especially whenever pipe-climbing happened, I just desperately wanted to be playing a new Sly Cooper game by them instead....
I know they've definitely grown up since then though. yet, I still think it would bore me. It just does for some reason. I don't know if I can even appropriately explain why. ..
Different topic, I was just thinking... I'm a little surprised... I thought it would have been cool if at least there was a recorded Thank You (and small apology) from Hello Games. Just as a reminder that it's still coming up soon. And just something a little bit more for those who didn't read the blog post.
Again, it's just so jarring how it felt that the conference was cut short. Like... I'm done already?...
As for the Xbox announcement, if it actually means anything substantial, I wonder if Sony actually has a response to that. If it actually means anything, were they blindsided kind of?.... or did they already know (a while ago and not just revealing yesterday that no PS4K at E3).
Ah yeah and VR. Sony had a pretty strong showing for the audience, I have to say.... Though I think more arm movement and usage would have been better to see than just camera movement, which sometimes actually ends up not being good to watch normally because it's less predictable to watch. Also, I think it was a bad idea to start a clip staring at a low-quality floor and rug. Even so, RE7 VR got a large cheer. Actually, a lot of the VR trailers got a good response more than I expected... which I'm happy about. lol, but... There was pretty much no transition into that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer.... that I thought that maybe it could have still been a VR demonstration. So I was lost there for a while....
Buuut, interestingly, maybe partially because of that weirdness, got a pretty huge cheer. At least significantly more than I was expecting after the huge internet hate for it. And about nothing for the remaster. And on that note, Sony didn't really get anything for BF1 because that's Xbox's thing now... They didn't do anything new with BF1 in the Xbox conference, did they?
Well, that's that... E3's mostly over I guess (except Nintendo). Though I missed the Xbox conference (don't know if I'm going to watch or just look up the news for it) and I completely missed the PC Gaming Show, which I quite enjoyed last year, so I still gotta watch that... I hope they didn't ruin it.
Edit: Just took at look at the Crash Skylanders trailer again. His eyes maybe aren't as crazy as I thought (maybe), but I'm still not a fan of the... furriness of him. And his head, most noticeably jaw, is scaled significantly too large. Also, is CTR getting remastered? It's not is it...
omg PLEASE online CTR....... He didn't say Crash Team Racing!.....
He only listed the first 3 games..... My god I need CTR online but IT'S NOT HAPPENING!!!..... well... at least there was a cheer in the crowd there... not really in my theater. Ugh.... let me guess... The physics of the regular Crash games are easier to fudge correctly than driving physics.....
WAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!.........
