And the servers have been getting DDOS'd for several days since... Not surprised.

smedley stepped down. He's taking some time off and might come back to the company in a different role. He hasn't been on Twitter since the 14th. Not trying to speculate, but that was 6 days after his rant on the lack of punishment in Julius'/Lizard Squad's arrest ruling, where he did technically say this: and since then the DDoS attacks. However, his posts since then, except for some directly talking about the attacks, have seemed positive. pbs.twimg.com/media/CKk58JOUcAA05cW.jpg

Map expansion is no longer in the near future. Zone 2, a city zone has been scrapped. Instead, all 3 main towns are becoming cities. Think Cranberry, but with a hell of a lot more towers and semi-skyscrapers. The shaders are getting updated AGAIN... (performance mentioned... and we know how that's gone with PS2 and H1Z1 previously...) However, it sounds like containers are actually going to become visibly openable (and closeable? idk), which is of course really good (barring additional performance penalties). Considering moving Ranchito Taquito since it's in a weird spot. Personally, I kinda liked where it was I guess. Updated + additional (hopefully) correct street signs, which sounds like wasn't really an easily doable thing before (and I know some were annoyingly incorrect).

Smedley's replacement twitter.com/The1WynnI think he's new to the company. Smedley's new little studio just launched the kickstarter for their new game a few days ago. 2D online multiplayer rpg.

Holy crap, I didn't realize this, but JimmyWhis left Daybreak/SOE to work for Twitch... back in May... 3 months after Sony sold it and became Daybreak. Smedley and his studio launched their kickstarter for their new game a few days ago. It's a 2D multiplayer rpg. Omeed, which I knew left a long time ago, maybe around the layoffs for Daybreak? works for NCSOFT. Of course both Everquest Next and H1Z1 development feel like they're moving at a snail's pace. Plus they've got Planetside 2 on PC and PS4 as well as all the previous Everquest games which they actually still make expansions for. Oh, and... Emily Domino is back from Canada after being trapped there since Christmas when the US wouldn't let her back in on a denied visa or something...

Ugh ok.... I guess in not a very shocking surprise, H1Z1 Survival (H1Z1: Just Survive) and H1Z1 Battle Royal (or a version of it? - "H1Z1: King of the Kill") are being split into 2 games... $20 each OF COURSE still in Early Access...
Those who already own it get both of course.
I have a feeling this might be a move to try get more of an audience back into the survival side of the game, but it'll probably be hard to kickstart Hardcore survival mode again. It died because it hit the spiral downward of literally 0 people playing on the hardcore servers and kind of being forced to go to the more 'casual' servers, or you know... leaving. It's a hard thing to keep multiple modes populated while it's still Early Access LET ALONE FOR MULTIPLE YEARS!...
Anyways, here was their January art wrap-up...
