From Jaffe (after some playtests):
Yeah, that was one of the 2 biggest downfalls of Twisted Metal PS3. The game's depth was frickin' amazing. Every frickin' button on the controller was used for multiple things and it worked so frickin well... well... when it was set to a non-default control setup. The maps were crazy crazy deep... but new players had no idea that stuff was even there and never appreciated it.
And of course the other downfall was that he should have stuck with the oldschool tried and true story of old Twisted Metals instead of the new way he tried to do.
The multiplayer was frickin' awesome, but nobody knew it....
I bet this game will be awesome too... I know what he's doing with the visual style... but sadly it's just obnoxious to look at. imo
It really should have a "more traditional" style, maybe still with parts of the sketchbook visuals, but the full black and white style should be an option. It's just too visually crazy and unclear.
we’re consistently seeing that we have a very deep game and we’re doing a really sh*itty job right now at communicating that [to players].
I failed with Twisted Metal PS3 on that. A lot of people only got to the surface of that game even thought there was a lot of depth there – at least, we think there was because people who really played it got it. But a lot of people only saw the surface, and they said, “This is boring” after 45 minutes or whatever and, “I’ve nothing to do.”
That’s my biggest nightmare with this game.
We want people to be able to go back to their 13/14-year-old still inside of them, whether it’s with Twisted metal or with this and go, “Hey, that’s ok too,” you know? I’ve done such a sh*tty job of making it clear that that’s our intent. So… this was a good therapy session.
