Death Stranding musical performance at the start.
G-Man in the sizzle reel, but no HL / Valve at the show (confirmed beforehand)
Disco Elysium, which all of a sudden everyone seems to be talking about, even though it came out in October - Best Narrative, RPG, Indie Game (massively competitive category this year, check the nominees, lol), and some other award.
The next Xbox is called the XBOX Series X Really? Also, it's I believe literally the dimensions of a Mini-ATX desktop. They even have it standing vertically with the top being all vent. Yet the disc slot is also vertical. A boring black box otherwise. You think Sony will do the same (besides that leaked design? And I'm reminded of Sony's boomerang controller with the silver PS3 once again lol). I do wonder how hot the new systems will get, compared to what we've had the last 2 generations already. They aren't Intel, but still hot I'd think.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was revealed for it in 4K. They're owned by Microsoft now, so maybe no Playstation this time, which... probably really sucks. I'd think it'll be on PC though.
It seems awkward that they're mentioning who people think will win and then saying that they'll show who actually won in a moment. At least it's awkward in this show.
Godfall is Gearbox's new "Looter-Slasher" for PS5 and PC (on Epic). Only cinematic shown.
They had Beaker and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew on, which was the highlight of the show (because it almost can't not be), though I wish they had had them stick around more. They had Beaker go into "Untitled Beaker Game" in Superglue VR, in which he almost couldn't return... until he did with the goose... to announce the award for Geese, I mean Gris.
Crash Team Racing won best Racing/Sports game.
I was honestly kind of expecting F1 to win. DiRT Rally 2 was in there as well, though people seem to have issue with it vs 1.
They kept saying "extended look at Ghosts of Tsushima", but mostly it was very drawn out cutscene and then very tiny bits of gameplay. Besides its setting I didn't really see anything unique, except that it may have magic? or some colorful sparkly projectiles you can throw at enemies or something. And of course slashing with a samurai sword.
There's also Naraka Bladepoint in China by a Chinese developer.
9-5 apparently sounds like it wants to be a Rainbow 6: Siege, but forced to be slower? Yeah, sure. I'm sure that'll work out and won't eventually end up being played at high speeds like Siege is.
Wolf Among Us 2 I guess was a bit of a surprise perhaps.
Death Stranding won best Game Direction, because, um...
& yes, Kojima was there.
Oh, and so was Elon Musk, btw.... but only in the audience.
It was strange because there was only a tiny musical "behind the scenes" for Cyberpunk. I mean..... No Cybertruck?
At the very beginning they of course had to do a promo for the new Jumanji, but luckily only 1.
I was surprised that they even showed them being made in Dreams. (Yes, Dreams.)
But at the end they had both Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel come out for an extremely graphically dated (and not mobile) Fast & Furious game.
I believe someone tried to get Vin to be Groot, because of course. (Though I maybe be incorrect?)
Also, I can't help but find it a little strange to have the Rock (though not in person) and Diesel make some sort of appearance in the same show, after I guess their falling out or something. But at complete opposite ends of the show, lol.
(And of course Danny O'Dwyer wants there to be a new Riddick game, lol. But I don't know if Starbreeze it what it used to be.)
Elder Scrolls Online Elsweyr cinematic (which might have already happened?) and Skyrim teaser. (Man, I wish they hadn't made Cyrodiil just a battleground, or is that not the case anymore?)
The Game of the Year was Sekiro..... Really? I'm not saying it's bad (or even a little bad), but I was never hearing that it was going to be GOTY.
One final little note that amused me is that there was a mirror ring back around behind the hosts. It was amusing because occasionally your eye would see it catch their legs and reflect it around the ring.... Especially that lady's shiny dress, lol.
Oh actually my other thing, besides knowing that Disco Elysium won 4 awards, 2 not on the main show, is that it does certainly feel like it was like "Here: Everyone one of the big name games of the year gets 1 award (during the show) this year." Not that it wasn't like that before, but. It was like, Here: "Death Stranding gets one (or more?), Apex Legends gets one, Fortnite gets one....." and like it didn't even matter what they were for, even though they were the main categories. As long as they all got one, who cares, right?
I don't think Outer Wilds (the planets one, not Outer Worlds by the New Vegas devs) got anything?
Also, just found this amusing Twitter thread about finding a bug in The Outer Worlds. It's kind of worth reading the rest as well.
Oh and yes, the XBOX Series X has already been shorted to the XBOX SeX.
They're real good at this.
If only the Wii U had been the Wii 2 ("Wii Ni" in Japanese)
