Wow, What A Surprise!!! After pushing / getting through the really messy menus (and buggy icons for new items that of course every game seems to have for some reason) and tutorials coming later than you want them to, I am Really enjoying Biomutant!
A lot of surprises, at least in some first portion/percentage of the game. Though even with those surprises I have started to tell (I think) what's probably going to repeat across the world, in what you're doing.
But man that world is Pretty a large majority of the time. Even if not actual full next-gen quality even with the PS5 version.
I did NOT realize this (the story anyways) was very much made for kids, however, because it does not look like it. Though it is real preachy and heavyhanded, not to mention clearly biased - it also very much seems like English wasn't its first language. (not a big deal).
But man, it would be so much fun to go through this co-op. It's very clearly a Single-Player MMO (at Hyperspeed) with Prince of Persia / God of War / Monster Hunter combat, including guns (and the latter of which it even unsubtley references / .... mentions). But sadly you're alone in this one (afaik?)
Now, Of course I put this on Extreme difficulty. The small groups of enemies are doable depending on your level, but the Bosses or the groups WITH Bosses?..... wtf (and do the Big guys level with you?) The interesting thing / design choice is that right from the beginning of the game it hints / half tells you that you can and are allowed to run past Boss fights?.... And so far I have been able to like Every single time, Even though I don't really want to?..... Because Every Boss has pretty much been too much. It's like the only thing(s) that are Extremely Tough or extremely Too Unfair - at Extreme Difficulty. I do wonder what Extreme Difficulty changes because it doesn't tell you. So in that regard that's what have made Boss encounters a disappointment, even though they're really well animated. (though I guess a lot of the big guy attacks are copy-paste though not all). Some of the bossed are even really tough to near-instadeaths even levels below you. So maybe Extreme Difficulty isn't balanced so well, imo?
But hoo boy, the amount of attacks and special and SPECIAL SPECIAL Attacks you have available (piled ontop of you really) at any time, if you were to attempt to memorize them is ridiculous. It's just piles of button chains in tiers if you get certain combos going. What I think doesn't really work is that the Parry-to-airborne combo does not chain into the other long chain of combos you can do if you attack first without / instead of starting from a parry. And of course I prefer starting from a Parry. Because Parries are off course the safest - except (as isn't unusually) the parry indicators over enemies heads aren't always easy to notice in the chaos, NOR do they show from enemies offscreen so you get blindsided.
Ugh, Well, This game really was a surprise so far. Now I just really wish somebody else was there going across this game / world with me.
Oh also I'm also kind of wondering / fearing if my gun will always be a kind-of-lousy shotgun if I don't specifically craft it as a specific type of weapon instead of mixing and matching.
Oh damn, the ratings on Steam are Not Good (or "Mixed"), and I actually didn't see any complaint about how dense and messy the menu and systems are, which is was my main barrier.
Oh yeah, I also wish there weren't so many forced/locked movements when dodging around the badguys because you become stiffly locked dodging or jumping into where you don't want to be (into fire) instead of out/away from it. Too many locked combat-dodge animations can become clumsy frustration when you're constantly activating an animation in a direction you didn't want to. That's unfortunately a usual way a combo Gun-AOE-Melee combat can become a frustration in games. Batman didn't have to deal with that much AOE, if any at all and of course he isn't doing much gunning down people himself either. Just a whole lotta punchin.

Yes! It is a definitively fun game to play through, with a really beautiful world. I played on Normal so I can't talk about Extreme difficulty mode lol. Another game that I was able to buy "cause my son might like it" and really I was quite interested to play it myself. He has played some and enjoyed running around, but it lost him along the way. Probably the menus etc. I played on PS4 when it came out so I'm sure it looks even better now on PS5. I still have the disc, but not sure when/if I'll ever throw it back in again.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it. I agree co-op would have been a blast!

WOAH WTF.....
This game Heavy directed to kids (despite its extremely dense systems) has a literal mission where you gotta go get a Drunk, basically, alcohol AND HAVE A HAVE A PASS-OUT DRUNK DRINKING GAME WITH HIM!!!!
I actually went to go look up the ESRB rating, since those aren't so obvious anymore, and it does actually in fact have a Teen rating, with that reason listed. Apparently there's Tobacco, too? (And Blood I guess, but idk if it's red blood or what).
I wonder if it would have had an E 10+ if it didn't have the drinking game.
I was reminded of Jak & Daxter. The first game was E 10+ and I forget if there was any alcohol / drinking reference in the first game at all. Maybe not? It only lists Suggestive Themes for the first game. The other ones were Teen.

Btw, the objective that actually uses those Bellows is actually confusing and poorly described as well. You have to double jump 5 times on it for it to work (after you've activated the quest, not before or it won't work either). Even though it says you need to get higher, that's bs and not what you need to do. Double Jump on it 5 times.
Also the Dryrock loot isn't actually in the cave (the dark cave with the rolling rock monster), it's in the Mototunnel North of it, which you need the key from Klick

This is stupid, and may be the only way of getting there? But it's hard to tell because it's so dark. There's also more actual loot that it doesn't list as well.

Some of them require ridiculous parkour or specific powers equipped to get up to places.

The map is so frickin useless (in many ways). It gives no differentiating indication as to whether a location actually has loot or not. And you can only tell by being there (can't tell from the map).
A lot of location discovery is completely up to you - and you don't know if there's a location you're missing.
The quest list not showing distances is really annoying as well.

lmao One of the villages can sometimes spawn the "Demo Monster" which is just one of the 3-Stage "MiniBosses". But terrifying for me (at first) because I have it on the hardest difficulty. AND Because I also have a quest one of them ALSO spawning there too AT THE SAME TIME that I'm having trouble getting rid of because of the difficulty and obnoxiously cramped fighting space for that type of fight/enemy. But the "Demo Monster" remains easy/quick to kill and doesn't actually level its health and damage.
But 2 of these things at the same time is like HOLY SHIT. I still haven't beaten the one I'm after, though.

Oh come on.....
Also, I don't know if I'll ever actually complete all locations for sure because there's no 100% complete location map anywhere, and no locations lists that aren't missing some.

Ugh, grinding out the trophy for 50 Super Wushu kills was a pain in the ass. It took me too separate days to do. The problem is that the parry counter attack is the most critical attack in the game at high difficulties. But it DOES NOT count towards getting to Super Wushu. Which it really should because since it's not, it's made me go through 2 nearly-100% playthroughs never getting/using Super Wushu attacks. You're doing your parry counter attacks and never progressing to stronger attacks because it doesn't flow anywhere / to it from there. And what makes it an extra pain in the ass for getting this trophy is that you end up getting stuck waiting after parrying so that you DON'T do the parry counter attack because it doesn't help you get to Super Wushu. And attacks from multiple enemies (every fight) is constant parrying.
Ugh.
The game would have been SO much better if the parry counter attack had just flowed into Super Wushu

oh wtf. The trophies where you have to collect the things for distracting the WorldEaters a bunch, even though you don't need any of them after getting them the first time each don't respawn until an hour in-game time unpaused, AND PASSING TIME AT A CAMPFIRE DOESN'T WORK!
