Ok, BF1 stuff...
New trailer (Unfortunately, the damned thumbnail is not in the damned trailer....)
The BF1 stream event starts after 1:38:30 after a couple amusing promos, one of course with Neebs and Appsro and then some wait time.
Oh good, now the time in the url isn't working for me....
This is kinda gonna be a mess of stuff, but I'll try to put some of it together (or... maybe I'll completely make it a mess).
There's randomly timed weather changing. On this map, rain and(/or?) fog. No idea if the sun moves, or I forgot that it was mentioned earlier. It seems to me like fog is mostly a deterrent against snipers and planes, and I guess perhaps the blimp too (gonna just call it blimp for clarity).
Finally!!!! Vehicle entering animations!!! I have no idea how fully this actually extends. Maybe it's just the driver, maybe it's while in the spawn area? I don't know yet. I also do not know yet if you can be shot and killed while entering a vehicle. But do people chasing a friendly vehicle have to do an animation?
However, perhaps for this reason, and interesting detail to note is that you can repair from the inside, no getting out to repair. I'm hoping this is due to now having entering animations and as such also needing you to also commit more to being in that vehicle, as well as not having silly and annoying hotswaps between you and an enemy. Ooh also... maybe less enemy vehicle stealing. But that makes me wonder, are they going to improve the problem of enemies stealing your vehicles out of your spawn....
Also, apparently they focused again or even more on not only killing by hitting specific points, but also damaging parts of the vehicle. Treads were stated, but I don't know all the specifics of it. There's anti-tank grenades, as seen in the trailer, though it looks like it takes maybe 4-5 to take one out with them? sigh... I miss when in BC2 when anti-tank was powerful.... even though that was mainly only engineer or if you could get close with C4.
One of the tanks has a cannon and view out the side that looks forward. You cannot see CRAP to the right of you.... It's pretty nuts. Is that the main cannon? It might actually be on that one.
There are tank health bars that the enemy sees. Does it show in hardcore?
There are some (extremely heavily) armored trucks. They're pretty much tanks themselves and really speedy.
Sadly, we saw very little plane gameplay, though there were always some going. Cameraman rarely got to one. However, we did get a couple shots of first person gunning from the pilot's view, which looks pretty great. Don't think we got any passenger views. However.... plane crashing explosions (as well as clipping with the windmill propellers...) is not in yet. (At least I'd assume). (Wasn't this the case with some other game like this in development?... maybe even one of the previous BFs?) They just disappear when they crash pretty much. Oh, also one other thing to point out, one of the team captains notices that planes are actually weak again against normal gunfire. Yay!
Oh that was so refreshing in Vietnam.... being able to take out a helicopter as an infantry with a large clip was so nice....
You can do bombing runs with the planes. (please let them be useful to the ground objectives....)
There are parachutes.
There are AA turrets.
The blimp/airship/zeppelin is driveable. I am not aware of how it is awarded yet. With how long the rounds last at the current setting, only 1 gets launched. I'd assume it's based on 1 specific base. The blimp of course is pretty durable, probably even more durable than the airships we've had in the previous games. However, it has like 3 pods (or gondolas he said) that hold the gunners and turrets (and propellers, but maybe only visually - on that note, the propellers on the blimp don't look great at a distance...
). You can shoot down the pods. However, I saw another one appear in its place - I do not know if this was a visual glitch or actually another one spawning on it. I am also unsure whether or not the blimp can drop bombs, or if it's just the turrets. We'll have to see how useful vs just annoying it's going to be this time. I'm gonna go with annoying. Now, when the blimp does actually get destroyed, it can crash down about anywhere on the map, not just 1 spot. It seems pretty likely that it'll hit at least some buildings though. And of course, it crashes exceptionally slow for ""cinematic effect.""
On that note, building destruction has made a point of going back towards BC2 or 1943. Whether you can collapse a building from the bottom, I haven't seen yet. As for visually, I'm not 100% sure, but it at least somewhat looks like there's more "chunks" or pieces that can be destroyed based on an explosion for more variability, but I have a hunch that it's still preset chunks like in BC2 or 1943 where an offset explosion will remove a set section of wall rather than being 100% only making a hole where the explosion was.
Oh and, ground deformation is back. Hopefully they've made it not buggy this time.
Though I did see a building a couple times where there's a support beam in the center that should have been blown out, because of everything that happened to it, that was still standing and it looked a little odd.
The bayonet charge is pretty sweet. Also, melee can be quick and brutal like a shank. Gonna have to see more of the slower melee weapons. There might be stuff in the middle as well. I want to see slow stuff (if it actually is slow), but so far it seems like the quick stuff is an insta-kill, so what's the point?....
Oh yeah, and the bayonet charge can be used to run faster and escape faster supposedly... Wonder if that'll be changed at all.
Bolt action rifles are back to a very long reload. Like, (if I remember correctly) 1943 bolt action sniper rifle reload time.... which I'm happy for actually. It seemed like most, if not all of them started out with it. Some even kept it for the bayonet charge (only a couple charges seen near the end of the stream). Others went for I think SMGs which were fast large/medium clips, rather than BF4 LMGs with a big clip and a lengthy belt-feed reloading time. I don't know if I saw any LMGs in play but they are there apparently. (and I could definitely be getting my gun types messed up.)
Pistols seem to have a high visual recoil. Whether or not that it includes actual recoil, I can't say. Did they not tone this stuff down significantly in BF4 not long ago?
Part of the trench field at the start of the first round is very gray, or maybe it was just the weather. I didn't really like the first views, but definitely more colorful spots showed up and made it look nicer. I can dig what they're
trying to do with the artstyle, but I don't think they've hit the point of "this is it..." 100% perfect yet like with BC2 (and hell, BC2:Vietnam and 1943). And they might never. Also, it (I guess... unsurprisingly) doesn't look as clean as it does in that trailer there.
The map they played on seemed to have nice sets of little hills surrounding building sets at the bottom of the valley(s).
The spawn is a camera that swoops to a 3rd person view of the actual battle, rather than a map. Also, it looks like we might actually be getting a spectator camera now. Recording, I'm not so sure about, but we've got more ways ways of doing that now.
Oh and there is climbing as an infantry. He didn't talk about it very much. I really hope it isn't completely automatic, or it'd be really annoying, as actually seen by one person in the stream. Spacebar would be fine, but even then it could be annoying at times.
Snipers can also have anti-tank rounds. I'm sure they're damaging and not 100% effective. Now, I don't know for sure, but it sounded like as a sniper you might get 2 sets of ammo rounds with you at the same time - regular, or Anti-vehicle, but you'd have to swap to them manually. Orr... I could be wrong and it's just switching ammo in the loadout, which is a bit lamer. Would taking Anti-tank ammo make you have to use your pistol more or pretty much exclusively if that's the case?
We did see at least 1 revive. It was quick, but I think it was pretty much lifting a guy off the ground by the hand.
You can charge through a door. Not sure if we actually witnessed that (most stuff was blown up quickly anyways). I... doubt this is only with the bayonet charge?
The spot symbol is very obvious now it's a large(er) red circle. (No thanks, Hardcore).
Anyways, it looked pretty darned fun. It looks like it's even more fast paced (than even BF4), which.... I would definitely complain about in the past, because I loved the slower pace of BC2. Except it seems like they have it right here, though vaulting over walls at this speed seems even more silly fast. A part of me feels like I shouldn't like these speed increases because it has definitely trended to CoD in that sense, but.... /shouldershrug
But finally, there was significant player rendering issues. All I mean by that is, at the moment, player models pop in definitely too late when appearing from around an obstacle. Pretty much any obstacle. If you're inside a doorway, for example, or at the corner of any wall blocking your view, a player will pop in in front of your face instead of actually seeing them come out from around the obstacle. I'm pretty certain that's just one of the next (normal) steps coming up in the things they need to do. Oh and are there no ragdolls yet? I hadn't actually paid attention to that.
Oh and, the trailer above of course reveals train heists (or whatever) with horses, but we haven't gotten to see any more of that. Still no horses seen.
Oh yeah and website updates.... Nothing too interesting or new in the Weapons section yet except for weapon customization presets. As for classes, it looks like Assault has the explosives now. (Maybe they're the only ones with the anti-tank grenades?) Support is still ammo and suppression. Medic is no longer part of Assault again, but UUUMMM, Here's the funny part...... Medic repairs the vehicles now.
lol ok.... And Scout is you-know-who... Sadly, in the scout description, they are encouraging long-range sniping.... sigh. And here's another interesting, but extremely vague detail....
and Finally maps... Here's what scares me. It's only confirmed to have 5 maps so far.... (and the same old DLC expansions and microtransactions (though unsure what microtransactions) that we have been getting). Battlefront had 4 maps + 1 added later (free). This was MISERABLE!!!!..... Battlefield 3 had 9 maps. Battlefield 4 had 10 maps... and that's
not including the more recent free maps. I am going to be frickin' pissed if we're only getting 5 maps.... again.
However, a supposed leak that I just found from a few weeks ago claims 9 maps. Here's hoping that means they can all be used in Conquest....
Crap, almost forgot the Modes page (because there is no frickin easy browsing of the damned Battlefield 1 website whatsoever....). Some interesting stuff in there, though little details. Conquest of course. Domination - smaller infantry mode with capture objectives - hopefully not like Blast mode in Battlefront, but probably will be.... (stupidly small cluster****). Now here's the interesting one - Operations - The description sounds like Rush (though it might not be, I really can't say), buuut.... The entire event takes place across multiple maps. Hell, that sounds partially like Galactic Conquest from Battlefront II...
which of course the new Battlefront doesn't have. I really don't know yet though.... Problem is, unscrambled teams across multiple maps might not be fun. (And custom servers might force-scramble, if we're even allowed to have custom servers, but the scramble cancels the the point of the mode....
) And then there's an unrevealed mode or modes.
ok damnit, I'm done for the night......
