Oh no... Velo is VERY good at Cortex Castle.... Yeah, he screws up, but of course he does. This is Cortex Castle! And of course he's probably using Acceleration, which probably helped. I used Speed, which actually probably isn't ideal here, but damn I beat him. I was glad that he actually screws up the most at the 2nd half of the 3rd lap, and I got some lucky needle threads through there. Man, that's technical. Shakin'
I looked up a video of someone else beating him with Speed, but I didn't follow its lead. I didn't want to. Happily I did it my own way (in terms of building up reserves), but all ways are hard here.

lol Velo kind of sucks at N Gin Labs. Well his time does, anyways. I already had him beat before he was released, and this time I beat him by 7 seconds.

It could be complete bs, but somebody says a Crash "PvP" game is being made (Bash?) and for some reason Wrath of Cortex remastered. Why Wrath of Cortex?... Ok yeah, it had a lot of unique stuff in it, but god damned it better control better. Also, the 2nd boss fight against elemental Crunch (water) better not be so frustrating. I remember the ball segments being cool, but frustrating as hell too.
If Wrath of Cortex goes well, then even though it was pretty much the end of the "linear" Bandicoot games, besides GBA, they'll be in full "remake everything! mode" so Twinsanity will be automatic, which I hated. And Titans/Mutant were abominations (no joke intended). And yet.... those darned kids that grew up with them. lol
Get off my lawn!
Velo is not that hard on Oxide Station with a Turn character. I even messed up or did the first lap(s) suboptimally, but... I do suggest jumping through the first zigzag and last sections, rather than trying to powerslide them. I mean, not massively unexpected, but I've liked to think that perfect powerslides through there with Turn characters is good, but in the end it's just not the case (and not needed).

Yup, Deep Sea Driving (against Velo) makes you want to scream. Even, and especially, with a Speed character.
I've had to learn a new technique and ways of driving the track, as you have to do with a lot of tracks with Speed.
Ok, actually most of it was the same, including the start (which Velo doesn't do for some reason). But with speed I've now learned what you shouldn't do as well as what needs to be done.
Yes, go over the dirt at the start so that you can pass the first blade no the left. Then the exit jump after that, DO jump to take the left curve (at the platforms) shorter.
It's more reliable to take the shortcut, but, especially as Speed, do not powerside in the left turn (which you already know if you've played Speed there before), but also DO hop (maybe airbrake) to take the corner as tightly as possible.
The critical part. DO NOT hop off the ramp into the tube (do not powerslide across this ramp either, even if you get the chance and it seems the right thing to do, and again don't hop either). Go across it flat THEN do the powerside in the first half of the first right curve in the pipe.
But then... DO NOT DO THE 2ND POWERSLIDE! IF you got enough full powerslide boosts in before this point (which, it's kind of close, at least on the first lap) (and maybe some airtime?), you should have enough reserves to make it through the rest of the blades all the way to the last jump out. Without doing the 2nd powerslide, stay flat, but you'll have to hop and maybe airbrake to the right to pass through the blade safely, also probably jumping through the last 2. But it's sketchy on the first lap because it's easy to lose your reserve with your airbrake (particularly if you hit the ground while doing this / brake at the wrong time or too much, which of course is a very small amount and you barely have enough reserve at this point). Hopefully you made it through, and that's how you do Deep Sea Driving as a Speed Character. But the blades will likely be in different spots on the next 2 laps.
The reason why you both do not hop and do not powerslide off or over the ramp that jumps you into the pipe with a Speed character is because you then starting your right powerslide too late, your Speed character will then most likely end up in the left outer "wall" and lose its reserves (which sucks, and shouldn't happen, tbh). A jump would cause this to happen sooner, but a powerslide across the ramp would probably make this happen later in the curve, which would make it almost seem like a good idea, but it's not.
And again, don't hop to start your right powerslide earlier, but do not 2 the 2nd powerslide and drive the rest of the right curve without powersliding, then hop your way through the last 3 blades which is sketchy and frustrating as hell since you're at them with practically zero time to change much of anything. That's Deep Sea Driving's blades for you. Again, the 2nd blade that is in the pipe (which is the 3rd blade overall because of the one way at the start) is probably going to be jumped through in the upper right, if you didn't realize.

Ok, things got crazier than I expected on Tiny Temple. You should take the left ramp with the boostpad (without hopping to the boost pad) on the first lap to get speed to the following boostpads. (kind of knew that already.) But you should also take that route (I believe) on the 2nd and 3rd laps too. This makes the last corner awkward probably, maybe don't take the dirt ramp on the left? Your crazy speed also makes the first left curve to the ramp between the flames awkward as well, because you also have to keep your ass away from the right side of the ramp or you'll get your ass flamed - difficult with a Speed character. And I barely beat Velo here with a Speed character, who was also only barely above my previous top time with an Acceleration character. I... I'm fearing what the developer time will be.

lulz It doesn't say that for mine right now, then again maybe it's because I filled the meter.
It's not reasonable to beat Velo on Meteor Gorge with a Turn character, he's just too fast in the long run. But... he does not actually grab the first boost pad up on the left, so he's easy to beat even with an Acceleration character as long as you do that, cut the snow well, and don't screw it up.

Ugh, Barin Ruins kind of sucks a bit, even with a Speed character, because you have to cut the corners tight, not fuck up on the bumps (or more accurately, get fucked by the bumps), and don't hit the robot at the beginning of the last lap to beat Velo.

Oh my god, they were not kidding when they said Velo's time on Out of Time was tough.... He does lose Blue Fire, but not for long. And there's so many places that can screw you over with Blue Fire on that track. But guess what..... I'm just now seeing my first Dev Time (which they did didn't even label as a dev time in any fashion) by "William P." as King Chicken. 11 Seconds faster...... No. No. No...... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That's beyond insane! WTF!!!!! I don't think I have the ability to handle that. Right now I cannot see myself standing the frustration of beating these dev times. Probably not even close. wtf. .....

Well, I've gotten Out of Time down to 2 seconds behind the developer time..... but that was a while ago. Keeping Blue Fire for 3 laps on Out of Time is INFURIATING.....
It's so painful.

This page cracked me up. (And yes, that arrow expands the answer) support.activision.com/crash-team-racing/articles/ctr-gameplay-tipsTheir support organization is so bad. And still no patch notes, even though they've improved collisions on some tracks, apparently. But I still can't frickin' beat the Out of Time dev time. It's frickin' crazy.

And yet still no crossplay.
And I still can't beat the Out of Time dev time.
