So I played SpinTires again after a long time of not playing it.
The biggest change.... They made it a loooot easier. All the vehicles have significantly more grip. Even the small ones and crappy tires. It's rather disappointing really. Now, for the most part, it's mostly driving across mud and some water with little to stop you. Slow you down, sure, but you aren't slowly trudging through mud hoping you don't get stuck very much anymore.... comparatively. There's little challenge now.
I think they also significantly cut down the crazy amount of rocks. Yet it looks like they also added a lot more branches on the ground, but at least they move now, instead of getting stuck on immovable sticks...
They made some model changes to some of the truck, also added some features to the camera system. Most notably a new camera locked to the top of the truck cabin.
They added a whirring sound to the winch and a horn, which... for some reason creates an audio blast you can see. It visually looks nice or cool, but it doesn't really make sense. lol Think of it like a movie or TV commercial visual effect on a massive sound where it has warping visuals from the audio source. Also the horn has a random chance to scare birds out of trees, the ground, or a single crow. They look really nice, though... it technically doesn't really make sense that they're only activated by the horn and not the truck itself...
They made some over very minor visual improvements I think it's really amazing how well it runs... with the most realistic deforming much and water, and thickest forests and grass you've ever seen in a game. A smooth 60FPS all the time somehow... while streaming.... O.O (with Steam Broadcast). It's crazy.
They made some at least minor tweaks to the maps, particularly in difficult spots. They made it much less of a pain in the ass to just reach the south side of the river on the River map. However, with the significantly higher grip, none of the vehicles (except maybe the jeep, which I didn't try) have almost no problem fording it... which is kinda lame. It was damn challenging before.
But also they, I'm pretty sure unintentionally, made a couple spots more difficult or accidentally added a snag that they didn't notice that wasn't there before. And my shortest route to reach the north eastern lumber destination on The River has been loaded with rocks and branches. Still reachable taking that path, it just takes a lot longer to get over the rocks where it was easy before. Oh and they removed the double humps in the paved road on the West side of the map on the North side of the River.... Aww.....
And I think there's at least 1 new map.
Oh, one thing they didn't fix?..... Alt-Tabbing causes the game to go to (or crash?) to the main menu... where it would normally save.... without saving. And on top of that it breaks any progress you might have already had saved on a map. I've restarted and almost completed The River at least 4 times because of this. It's kind of pissed me off enough at this point that I'm not sure if I ever actually will go back to it again. They mentioned maybe adding better save features, which might make me try again, but they also went "oh hey, we're thinking on starting SpinTires 2" as well as pushing modding off until the sequel, which was semi-promised for this one. Among other things....
