So I fiiiinally finished off the last few Deathstroke roadblocks, the Deathstroke battle, and the Riddler trophies and battle. After many many many technical difficulties...
Other than the major performance issues (finally ended up dropping it waayy down to what Geforce Experience recommends for my card, which is way way down the bar from maxing the settings out, yet.... it's Batman/Gotham, so it still doesn't look bad. Still had performance dips though, but less drastic, but...) tonight's issue was that Microsoft borked the controller drivers for Windows 10 last month. The ones that were reported were the Xbox One controller drivers, but they also busted the 360 controller drivers and... I'm not sure but maybe the PS4 controller drivers as well (though I'm not sure what triggered that because nobody mentioned it specifically). Anyways, Arkham Knight wasn't picking up the PS4 controller at all (not sure if that's MS's doing or Rocksteady's... or maybe even mine), but here's what was going on with the Xbox controllers. It seemed like most people couldn't get the XBone controllers to work at all. What I found when I used programs to make the PS4 controller emulate a 360 controller, which has worked out fairly well for the most part before, through the 360 controller's drivers (xinput I think? or something like that), anything registered on the joystick (with 0% deadzones default mind you) (and actually... even when it wasn't emulating one I think... I think the PS4 controller also uses Xinput - Even the touchpad not being touched) would all make my entire computer come to a screeching halt halt... just about. You move the joystick around at the same time as you see what you can do with your mouse (not in-game) your mouse could hardly move. (Reminded me of the days of our computers running out of memory just running the operating system...
)
I didn't look at the Task Manager myself, but somebody mentioned that it was actually causing massive CPU spikes.
SO... I had to get my PS4 controller emulating a 360 controller so that it would show up in Device Manager as such, and install an old 360 controller driver (dated 2009 - didn't bother checking if they actually bothered making new ones until now when they messed it up).
Anyways, turns out, you actually can complete the last 3 Deathstroke roadblocks without getting the Disruptor upgrade to disable the 2 massive turrets in each one. The 2 encampments that have open tops... I had to do some dodgy stuff to work through those. None of your gadgets can completely take out an enemy from long distance really. Since I couldn't disable the turrets, I could only deactivate the cameras on one at at time (because... game reasons). Luckily, even though they're generally covering most of the base, the turrets mostly don't rotate 360 degrees on their own unless alerted. It wasn't easy, but with help from the turret camera disabling (only 1 of 2), disabling 3 enemy guns at a time, and smokebombs (which the turrets can see through), I was able to take out a couple or so guards at a time before I completely became swiss cheese before I could escape (and those turrets can see forever if you can't get behind a building). lol somehow I even had good luck with grabbing and destroying the device that one of the enemies drops (after defeating them all) without being in sight of the turret with still active cameras. That brings the walls down and bam, I can take out the turrets in 1 shot with my now available Batmobile.
Now the third base actually... I really didn't think there was, but there is actually a spot higher up that you can take your Batmobile up to that will see above the walls of the covered base, but through the opening between the wall and the building that covers it. Boom - take out both turrets and the enemies. No matter how much I looked I couldn't find a spot to do that by the previous 2. And I assumed that because the 3rd was covered that it definitely was not going to have a view for the Batmobile... and that it was meant to be the last and hardest base.
Well....... then as I expected (from what I heard)... and even more so, Deathstroke, the "2nd Ending" (other than Riddler) is a maassive disappointment... So soo bad.....
He of course has you go up against the usual tank battle. You're even specifically warned that he can see in 360 degrees. You're to take out the pesky little ones before it's a good idea to go after him of course. Now... Even the type of tank he has and icon on the map makes you think might be like one of the big scary ones you met previously in the game..... Nope, he has a health bar.
But here's what happened to me! Well... during this battle on one of the 3 islands, the bridges are raised. You aren't supposed to go anywhere anyways. Well... during the time I spent maneuvering around and destroying all the smaller tanks... This brilliant guy manages to get himself stuck at the bottom of the raised bridge, which had now become a steep ramp. His spread 3-rocket shots backwards at me were easy to dodge, his health wasn't particularly much and I destroyed his tank in a matter of seconds. He jumps out of the tank, awesome attacking pose with sword ready... kind of really hoping for an awesome battle like the battle against him in Origins... and Batman grabs him and puts him in the back of his car...
What.... the hell....
Now... I found out a while ago myself that... it turns out that if you do not do well enough in combat throughout the game in general, or... maybe even if you do, it is impossible to get enough Wayne Industries points or whatever the hell they are to unlock all of the unlocks you can get for your gadgets and abilities and such.... without starting the New Game+. Why? because you are only given XP for defeating enemies connected to the story objectives. You get absolutely nothing from any of the random rioters around the city (unless it's a Riddler thug). Once you complete as much of the story objectives as you can and 3-star the AR challenges, you're shit out of luck... You have to start a New Game+. The XP you get from New Game+ is in fact shared with your normal game save, but still.... What the hell, Rocksteady....
Now where I thought I was stuck (and was very close to being) was that I hadn't and still haven't unlocked the Disruptor upgrade to disable those huge turrets, which... surprisingly not a problem for me anymore. And Then... The last few Riddler Trophies. All behind upgrades I hadn't unlocked. Luckily, before I was out of luck, getting rid of those turrets without the upgrade helped me unlock the upgrades needed for the remaining trophies faster, and before I couldn't anymore, though I still had been working on those damn challenging AR challenges... for 1 frickin' point a piece... (I ended up unlocking them in an order I didn't really want do, but I kind of felt forced to...)
So now... I actually ended up doing the Riddler battle almost immediately after Deathstroke. The good thing... almost is that he's kind of more interesting than the Deathstroke battle. Not fantastic, but still... It brought me up a little after a really sad boss battle. (And no, it's not another Batmobile race, luckily...) But... even so the riddles in this game... were so disappointing.... yet again. And the RIDDLER!.... God he's a frickin' parody of himself now!....
He will not shut up. You will hear him say the same lines over and over and over again throughout the game, and even more when he's the only one left yelling over the damned speakers that this city has. And his dialogue... and his riddles.... A MASSIVE MASSIVE disconnect with him seeming like a complete moron for some reason saying that he's smart. His dialogue is so bad in this game... (and repeats over and over)... and the riddles that aren't riddles (mostly and/or completely obscure) are so bad... that you don't feel good completing pretty much any of them. When Arkham City had a pretty good share of really challenging puzzles. And his taunts felt like taunts... and weren't what feels like one of the stupidest people on the planet by that point saying that he's the smartest person in the world. (and Origins' puzzles were bad too remember...)
Sigh....
What a disappointing end I've had with this series...
Well... I haven't actually done the "Knightfall" yet. I want to see what happens, even if it's nothing much, but I guess I still want to 3-star all the AR challenges for some reason. Unlocking all the upgrades I'm not as sure about since I have to start the New Game+ for them, but maybe those'll go quick with fast XP gaining at the start of the game.
Sigh...
