Been trying it out, of course about as slow as I always have, which means I'm already pretty behind. But tomorrow I plan/expect to finally establish my base hopefully back on my very first planet if there is one I can use, or at least my first solar system. I just arrived back there now.
As I suspected, the unbearable moon that I was on has mostly completely changed. It's gone from a green toxic moon with lots of wildlife (but no grass), to what is considered a completely barren brown rock moon with only minerals. No creatures, no waypoints, no intelligent lifeforms, nothing, except for mineable stuff. Here's the thing though. As will previous universe regenerations, the game still shows me that I've made those creature discoveries on this moon that no longer has any creatures. And still that 8/11 since it was impossible to find the last 3 previously.
But here's the more concerning parts, which... could have been the case with previous regenerations as well. Even though the planets are all there and properly named in my discoveries list, if you go to those systems/planets.... the names are gone and when you scan them or touch down on them, it goes back to the randomly generated names rather than the names you had given them. That's the problem, seemingly, with this discovery system... Is it actually functioning properly?
And to add on top of that... there's a new bug. (I'm curious if maybe it only happens on planets you've been to before/have been discovered before. Pretty much all the "?" locations on planets I've been exploring (except for when I get a specific destination to somewhere), now stay a "?" even if you're standing and it and have discovered it. So you walk away from a point and completely lose which ones you've been to and haven't been to... because their statuses don't update.... (at least maybe until you reload or something). They seem to show fine in the discoveries list, but don't update in the world in front of you. Also, I suspect that we aren't getting our reward currency for uploading our discoveries, even though the system says it's online. This bug is not good. And definitely not good for how I play.
Now that we've got cardinal directions (actually just N and S), I actually decided to walk to the North Pole of this moon. Of course I didn't expect to find anything special, and I didn't. However, I was worried about how buggy/problematic the directionals might be for whatever reason, as normal icons can have annoyingly problematic behavior. In this case, the N and S are only on the compass of course. Nothing problematic happened (except for the compass line being black on a black night sky). I thought it might start flipping out, but as soon as I hit the North point, the N disappeared from my compass. Oddly, the S was off towards one direction, rather than indicating straight down, like you'd think it would, or even behaving similarly to the N, which is wasn't. This North Pole was quaintly unspecial. Tucked next to one of the moon's large rocks (which are interestingly similar to the ones that were on the moon previously) and a giant mound of gold (which isn't actually uncommon on this moon... nor actually useful or valuable
).
Ground textures have finally gotten increased detail/resolution that we thought we would be getting previously. Same with a bunch of other things, including more characters models. Lighting and other such things have also been updated. It now does a Depth of Field effect during interactions, which... is actually problematic with Monoliths because the DOF doesn't go away when you complete it and the beam of light shoots out of it lol. Just completely blurred away now. Ground textures, and some rock textures also have changed to be much more real-life/earth-like than before. Particularly with this moon, some of the rocks looked exactly like charcoal. I wish they wouldn't limit when you can use your flashlight (for no apparent reason) because this moon had some very dark spots even during the day. And low atmosphere seems to cause darker shadows.
The creature/fauna/waypoint discovery menu is 1 step more annoying as they've divided them up in the 3 separate sections. I mean, honestly it makes sense, but you have to go through each page to upload them. What they really need to do is have a button/setting to upload without renaming in one shot because hell no, I'm not renaming every plant and animal, I just want to upload, but you have to scan, then go into the menus to upload.
They keep amazing me at how, even though lack of inventory has been one of the biggest issues since the start, they keep (now very very arbitrarily) adding know things to collect. Some of which are now quite literally labelled "Junk." AAARG! There was already too much crap to collect for the amount of slots we get, with
no auto organization whatsoever, and now it seems like there's twice as much!....
Now there's actually separate pages for technology slots and high capacity inventory slots (high capacity is expensive). I have to look into it more, and see if these can actually be expanded beyond what it shows you, similar to the normal slots, or if you only the the few there and that's it...? What's strange/annoying is that your installed technology was not moved to this new page. Potential compatibility issues I guess.
Not sure why my game hasn't switched from Celsius to Fahrenheit.
Again, tomorrow I'm going to finally see if I can set up my own base because annoyingly, they locked a crapload of required gear through building your own base.
Oh yeah, almost forgot that it looks like you can pinpoint a portal building now (or at least start to) by bringing a monolith artifact to a similar monolith and I guess giving it as tribute there. GREAT! More valuable items to hold on to, rather than sell, hogging the slots that I don't have!!!
