House of Wolves is getting The Reef as a new social location. (Yay... pointless except for another spot to sit around in the solar system...) (You know, that location that was shown off 2 years ago, long before Destiny launched?)
No new raid. - Personally, I'm ok with this, because I still haven't been able to play the first ones because of no matchmaking.
Maxed out Exotic and Legendary weapons will be upgradable to the new max, without being reset, with an exotic shard.
You can reforge HoW weapons (requiring a resource probably) to get a new set of random upgrade stats with progression on that weapon being reset.
The Speaker, back in the tower, will now be a dump for old materials in exchange for a bunch of the other old materials. How sad....
New faction and crucible gear.

Ugh.... The new Trials of Osiris crucible mode coming in the next expansion is just 3v3 Last Team Standing with teammate revive capability. Also, it's only active on the weekends and you have to either earn tickets into it through normal crucible or buy 1 (limit 1 purchased ticket/week). Your tickets expire after 9 wins or 3 losses. Here's a look at the 3 new crucible maps. www.bungie.net/en/event/houseofwolves#new-arenas_

The Prison of Elders is Horde Mode.... How disappointing. Because the game didn't have enough horde moding already...

So, for the last couple months, the Crota "invasions" haven't been happening on the Earth or the Moon. So at the moment you can only complete the related bounties for those by doing the first Crota mission.

Turns out that the Trials of Osiris requires a fireteam. So that's another thing I paid for that I'm locked out of.
And the highest end loot on the PvE side of things, behind a series of several RNG lotteries...
Iron Banner is back next week though. With new gear apparently and is another way of getting Etheric Light for upgrading your old gear.

So Kotaku just decided to go right out and leak the info they got on the next Destiny expansion.
The Taken King expansion will be $40 on Sept 15th. A new (third) subclass for each of the 3 classes - an electrical storm for Warlocks (arc); a gravity bow for Hunters (void); and a flaming hammer for Titans (solar). Each are the type of damage missing as choices from each of the classes. New Strikes, PvP, etc. New Raid against Oryx, the father of Crota (yay more screeching...). He's leading new enemies called the Taken.

Man the pricing on these expansions are substantial. Do you think they're worth it?

Well, supposedly, this is supposed to be a "major" expansion, as opposed to the smaller ones. But even so... with buying Destiny at $60... and being locked out of content in both of the $20 expansions already released (and the original game) because I'm a solo player.... No. I can't really say that I do. But I'm still here I guess. My biggest issue though, even with the stuff I can't complete or even access solo, is that I feel too much like it is abusing my time. I'm not the first to bring that up about different games other than Destiny. There's a part of me that feels a little bad, because this is how MMOs have worked for many years. What I'm pointing out is that there is a high spike at the highest levels vs reward rate that you are stuck at generally grinding the lottery in most cases. Then the expansion comes and, quite simply, moves that wall a little bit forward to numbers that are a bit higher. But you're doing the same thing again. You're sitting at the lottery wall. Do you feel rewarded enough simply for still being there? No, because the enemies that were hard before are easy now because of numbers and not skill. Simply numbers. The developer decided to charge you $20 to add +20 to your stats and different looking enemies (sometimes) that also have +20 stats. Is that the extent of it? No. But when it feels this abusive, it's really hard to ignore that that's what it is. Again, I feel a little bad and it feels a little unfair because this is how MMO's have worked forever. Hell, they're even now letting you bring some of your old gear along with you for those who want to, after the backlash, which MMO's don't typically do, but I can't say I'm really interested in that. And of course I feel bad for discounting the addition of more "story" levels to see (though... still not implemented, done, and packaged well to feel that bad), as well as feeling the darn "what's wrong with me... Am I not playing this just to enjoy it? Am I not a gamer?" But whose fault is that? My age and the fact that the magic of it all from when I was younger isn't there anymore, even though it's all pretty much been the same and I didn't know it at the time? Or the developer's/publisher's/industry's fault for... in the end... charging the consumer more for less? (and/or of course leaving out features that we would have gotten years ago, though that's just another part of the story). It's both together, for me, I guess really. And it just compound it. Having increasingly "seen it all before" and just knowing I have just sucks. And it of course makes it harder for developers. Publishers of AAA games are pushing to be safe at the same time that's it's become extremely difficult to even just think of something new (that's fun). But that's always happening, and there's always new younger costumers who haven't seen it all before, which... I'm sure is what EA bets on because they know it will work, at least to a point, when you reboot an old series and crunch at the expense (oh wait, did I say expense? I mean gain) of losing old features. Bombard your customers with an established franchise at more than the fastest pace reasonable, while abusing and disappointing old fans of the franchise, because there will always be new ones who never played the old ones. NFS took a year off? It's about fucking time. Not that EA deserves to get its customers back at this point. Kill the publishers! woo! Self publishing! Indie innovation! LOL!
