“We kinda just aimed the thing in a random direction and started going to town. Was it a bit hasty? Sure,” said Dr. Mort Jacobson, a physicist at the Jet Propulsion Lab. “To be fair, the interface is confusing.”
While the ferrite dust has not proven useful, engineers were quick to defend themselves and the rover.
“You hear all this hype about Mars. You hear about how it’s getting better, and how there’s cool new stuff, like evidence of saltwater oceans,” said Jacobson. “Can you blame us for getting a little overexcited?”
Mission officials were cautious about next steps.
“It’s not clear how much we should drop. This ferrite crap is all over the place, so it’s probably important. What if we need a boatload of it later on, and we dropped most of ours?” said mission director Gina Helms. “We’d look like real jackasses then.”
At press time, the engineers were trying to figure out if they could stack the ferrite dust or something.
The fucking inventory aside, I keep trying to get back into NMS after most major updates. I would love to feel like I make any progress at all in any reasonable timeframe, but there is nothing like how poorly tuned NMS is so that it instead plows you deep into "what the hell am I doing with my life?" so extremely strongly. Not even hunting specific animals/things in RDR2 can infuriate you more than finding the last animal ON ANY PLANET for almost no reward. (Not even those fucking RDR2 parakeets...) And now they've started actually tallying the rocks and plants, too? And for zero additional reward. No; Absolutely fucking No. THIS IS FUCKING AWFUL, SEAN! For fuck's sake, make the uncommon and rare spawns somewhat even close to distinctly reasonable. Are they broken? What is the fucking reason why you go fucking months of playing without finally seeing the last one(s) spawn. (ON EVERY PLANET!) You give us more specifics AND YET STILL! ....
Oh I see... Underwater crabs are still showing up as Extinct, even when they aren't, leaving an empty Fauna slot, making it impossible to complete a planet's Fauna discovery - even though they said they fixed it at Halloween.
I bet the tally for the rocks and plants is really screwed up, too.
Why is this a dedicated thing? I don't understand....
Update 3.3, Expeditions, introduces a brand new way to play No Man’s Sky. Start a fresh journey in a brand new game mode, master a unique set of challenges with revitalised mission mechanics, earn exclusive new rewards, visit bustling hub worlds, and much more!
Why do they want to split the community?
Oh no..... They're going to be making this into a "Game Pass" aren't they? ......
Every fully completed phase will unlock a unique reward, exclusive to those who undertake the expedition. An extra reward awaits those who complete the entire expedition!
Missions available from Space Station Mission Agents have been completely reworked for greater depth and interest. Rewards have also been rebalanced, especially for higher level missions.
The process of finding mission locations has been reworked to add more exploration gameplay. Instead of just following a marker, the Analysis Visor’s new Target Sweep mode requires players to use their tracking skills to precisely locate their target.
It works like using the Analysis Visor's secondary mode where you have to look around in the visor for it to indicate what direction to go for what you're looking for.
Oh Twitch drops. Goodie.....
The first official Twitch Drop campaign will run from April 1st – April 5th 2021, and includes rewards such as character customisations, emotes, base parts, ship decorations, and unique ships and multi-tools.
New weekend event missions are available from The Nexus! Each weekend, Polo and Nada will indicate a specifically-located mission for all Travellers to participate in and earn generous Quicksilver rewards.
Special Rendezvous Planets along the Expedition route create dynamic hubs of activity. Reunite with other travellers on the same journey, group up with the community to build a settlement, or simply wave hello as you pass through.
New expeditions will begin regularly. The duration and length of each expedition will be unique, as each will explore a different theme, with bespoke challenges and new exclusive rewards.
Each Expedition begins fresh, with a randomised character and set of technologies, recapturing the excitement of setting out into the universe for the very first time.
Sigh....
At the end of the Expedition, the associated milestones and new rewards will no longer be earned. However, your savegame will still be available, and will be converted to a Normal mode save.
Sentinel combat encounters have been rebalanced/tweaked AGAIN!
On key expedition planets, protections have been put in place so that resource collection is not synchronized across the entire playerbase, preventing exhaustion of the planet.
Introduced a significant number of shader loading and memory optimisations. Introduced a significant number of load time optimisations. Introduced a number of PlayStation 4 memory optimisations. Introduced a number of optimisations for using PSVR on PlayStation 5. Introduced a significant texturing optimisation for PC and Xbox platforms. Introduced a number of CPU optimisations for planet generation on PC. Introduced a significant network bandwidth optimisation. Fixed a number of hitching issues related to creature physics. Fixed a PC-only hitching issue caused by high CPU load during terrain generation. Max FPS has been increased to 240FPS.
Fixed an issue that prevented wild creatures from defecating after being fed.
Wow, what a boring way to phrase that.
A new interaction has been added to Gek observatories. A range of specific new interactions have been added for NPCs on lava and swamp planets.
Fixed an issue that could prevent players from destroying all the depots at a depot site on Korvax planets.
Lots of fixes, but I see nothing about underwater crabs listing as Extinct then they aren't - which makes planets confusingly incompletable. So I don't know if I'll actually be playing until/if that ever gets fixed.

I don't think my rig will be able to playably handle this, even if it's... not technically raytracing?
You can tame pretty much any animal now.
A new terminal has been added to the blueprint research area of the Space Anomaly. This new automated research station will provide recipes for crafting components, in exchange for nanites.
The Space Station hangar bay now features an automated Space Station Controller to monitor traffic and ensure smooth station operations.
(Lighting) Debanding has been improved, fixing several visual artifacts in high-noise areas. Fixed an aliasing issue affecting chairs and other seating in the Space Station. Fixed an issue that caused ship takeoff audio to trigger as the game loaded. Fur rendering technology has been added for all platforms except Xbox One S and PSVR. Fur has been added to a number of creatures. These creatures have been selected appropriately from existing species.
Fixed an issue that caused crablike creatures to always be labelled as extinct.
OMG FINALLY!!!! I can play the damned game again! But man, still so burnt out on it right now. And other stuff as well.
When purchasing a freighter, your previous freighter base will now be automatically transferred and reassembled aboard the new freighter..
Fixed a PC-specific issue that could cause slow streaming. Fixed an issue that could cause hitching on PC and next-gen consoles. (Sure) Fixed a rare issue that could cause NPCs to offer the same interaction repeatedly. The construction cost of Ion Batteries has been reduced. Fixed a number of snapping issues with large rooms. Fixed an issue that could cause NPC ships to land on top of each other at outposts. Adjusted the landing pads at Planetary Archives so that ships do not take off and crash into the building. Farmable crops planted in your base no longer collide with players, for ease of navigation.
A new save streaming system has been implemented, making more efficient use of memory. Very large saves are now supported, allowing for thousands of hours of play.
As this new save system changes the format of save data, all existing saves have been automatically backed up. On PC, these may be found under the new strbackup folder within your save directory, usually in C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames\NMS\

Sentinels regard all pockets of civilisation with hostility, and as time passes, a prosperous settlement will inevitably draw sentinel attention. Research defensive buildings to keep the alert level low, or engage attacking drones in combat!
Combat effects – impacts, player weapon effects, Sentinel effects and more – have had a visual overhaul, creating a more dramatic and impactful experience for those who choose to take the fight to the Sentinels.
I assume these are still manually triggerable?
The number of discoveries that can be saved locally before uploading has been doubled.
WHAT ABOUT FIXING FAUNA DISCOVERY LIST BUGGGGGGGGGS!
The building UI has been totally overhauled. In placement mode, this new contextual menu allows quick access to scale, rotation and recolouring options. In the brand-new edit mode, builders can quickly select and edit any existing pieces in-place, without having to delete or replace them.
Scaling? That might be strange.
Settlement life is not always harmonious! As overseer, you will occasionally be called upon to help resolve disagreements between settlers. Do your best to be a fair and compassionate judge, or cast blame widely and use the fines to boost the settlement’s finances – the choice is yours.
A highly productive settlement can generate a steady income of lucrative products and substances. A populous, happy, and productive settlement will provide a generous supply of resources to its overseer every day.
How do you receive it?
Visual effects have been improved across planetary environments. Dust kicked up by Exocraft, Walkers, starships and radioactive vents now whorls with more depth and character, and fireflies will gather around the street lamps in settlements.
Are you able to hear atmospheric flight noise again? Nothing about sound.
The basebuilding toolset has been expanded with several advanced controls. Free placement mode disables all forms of snapping, and allows parts to be placed inside other parts. This advanced mode allows builders to place parts wherever they choose – even in mid-air!
Like the Base Computer, right? RIGHT??
Every settlement has a unique set of features, influencing the population, happiness, and productivity of its citizens. Keep these stats balanced to ensure a smoothly functioning society.
Structural base parts such as walls, windows and arches will now intelligently select an appropriate variation – foundation, mid or top – for their position within a structure, making it quick and easy to construct aesthetically pleasing and highly varied bases.
^ automatic wall decoration
All the new procedurally generated Settlements seem to be of ancient design. I don't know if you can tell them apart by Alien type, or if there even is that. Are they all entirely mixed?
Account-wide data such as cross-save Expedition rewards are now cloud synced, allowing access to these items across multiple systems when transferring save data via Steam Cloud or PlayStation Plus.
All non-consumable Quicksilver purchases, such as gestures and base building parts, are now treated as account-wide data rather than tied to a specific save slot.
This still scares me - if I were to ever end up with NMS on PS.
Oh boy, you can have Monstrosities as pets now.
On the Discovery screen, improved the clarity of the button that is used to register completion of all creature discoveries on a planet. The reward for discovering all creatures on the planet has been significantly increased. Fixed a number of mission issues related to other players discovering the target creatures/plants/minerals.
OMG, DID THEY FIX IT? DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK? I BET IT'S STILL FUCKED!
Fixed a number of issues that could prevent players from landing despite the location being valid.
Fixed an issue that caused the collision detection for biological horrors to be far too small.
Too small?
Fixed an issue that could cause players to take hazard damage if their hazard protection was drained but they were no longer in the active hazard.
Not certain what this bug is, but the other day Storm lightning apparently killed me over and over and over again AT MY RESPAWN POINT. This ended up making my grave empty and I lost my entire Main Inventory! Frickin' pissed but I was able to get it back by using the previous Manual save. I was lucky because I guess getting out of your ship is an "Automatic Save" while a Waypoint save is a "Manual Save". If I had been at a Waypoint save I might have been 100% fucked.
Fixed an issue that caused some markers to have a “time to walk here” estimate despite being on another planet.
Again, I bet Fauna Discovery count on revisited regenerated planets is still fucked and that I most likely still can't complete it.
WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE LOOK WHAT THEY ADDED WITH THE TWITCH INTEGRATION

Sean is teasing something about worms - probably the sandworm. (Though Dune did just come out.)
I'm not expecting fixes to Fauna Discovery lists, as we've been waiting for actual fixes for years. Though only one we actually got fixed was scanning of Underwater Crabs, which bugged about 2 years ago and was fixed last Halloween. Seems really unlikely still.
